Composting

Home   Composting

To our knowledge, we are Milwaukee’s only free continuously operating self-drop community compost site. Our Milwaukee neighbors bring their food scraps and small amounts of yard organics that we process into compost. We have always donated this nutrient rich soil to the community through large scale direct to garden giveaways and free self-help compost. After moving to the Garden District in 2020, we’ve been rebuilding!

Check out the collab with our friend, Hummingbird MKE —  The one in which Marion and Renee chat it up – -and geek out about compost.

Hummingbird MKE has an EXCELLENT How to Compost in Milwaukee FAQ Guide.

They also host a series called “Ask Them Anything” and the first HUGE call from their IG community was related to FAQs on Compost! We were more than happy to oblige with a loooong talk (that had to be split into two videos 🙂

The Kompost Kids’ core mission is to make community compost a living reality for all who are willing to participate. Find out more about how you can start your own community compost site, contribute to soil-production in your neighborhood, and learn all about how to convert restaurant and kitchen trash into a valuable soil amendment.

Kompost Kids targets businesses that see sense in landfill diversion of organic residuals, find value in giving back to the soil that puts food on their customers’ tables, and want to get involved in the creative transformation of urban waste streams.
