- On September 15, 2012, Kompost Kids Inc. composted the Bay View Bash street festival in the Bay View Neighborhood of Milwaukee. The festival attracts some 20,000 participants to a section of Kinnickinnic Avenue, which closes for the day. Over 10 cubic yards of compostable material was salvaged from the landfill by the Kompost Kids to be turned into soil for community gardens and urban agriculture. Kompost Kids purchased compostable products from a local vendor and gave them to the festival to ensure compostability: 7,000 12-oz. cups for the beer vendors, 1,000 8-oz. cups, 1,000 16-oz. cups and lids, 4,000 “boats” for food, and 3,500 plates. This project was funded by a grant from the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation.
